Shashi bought new silver anklets. After a month she found that the anklets turn black. She hasdoubt that it is not of pure silver but her neighbor Rakhi advised her that it is of pure silver andwash it with tamarind or lemon juice to get the luster back. b)these turn black because silver reacts with the sulphur present in the air to form a black coating to form silver sulphide.
c)because tamarind juice and lemon juice are acidic in nature and they are capable of removing the layer.

a). The anklet is of pure silver, it just reacted with water and free air to get converted into greyish silver oxide which turned it black.
b). After washing with tamarind or lemon juice the acidic content in them removed the basic silver oxides. Hence, the lustre came back.
c) They neutralize the silver.
d) Rakhi is a helpful person and is ready to assist people in need, she has good knowledge on chemistry topics.
