As per data given in the question,

We have to represent the relationship given in the question in form of linear equation.

As we know that,

A linear equation is a equation in which the maximum power of variable is 1.

So, Now taking the data given in the question,

We have,

Shashi's age is 14 years less than four times Smita's age. Shashi's age is 18 years.

Let the age of Smita = x\:years

As it is given that,

Shashi's age is 14 years less than four times Smita's age.

So, four time the age of Smita will be =4\times x = 4x \;years

So, 14 years less than the four time the age of smita will be,

4x-14 \;years

Hence, The above statement can be written as,

Shashi's\:age = (4x-14)\:years

As Age of Shashi is given as 18 years.

So, we can rewrite the above expression as,

Shashi's\:age = (4x-14)\:years\\18=(4x-14)\\4x=18+14\\4x=32
