This above question is based on the narration or reporting speech of Imperative sentences. In this dialogue, a girl advising the speaker to manage her study time. Other Imperative sentences includes orders,requests,forbidding or begging.

Rules for Change:

  • The reporting verbs changes to advice, order,request,tell,beg etc after the change of narration.
  • Sometimes when there is a negative imperative sentences, we can use reporting verbs like forbid, prohibit etc.
  • When "please" occurs in the sentences, generally we wise the reporting verb, requested.( Refer to Example-3)
  • When "let" is given in direct speech, we can use the reporting verb "suggested" or "proposed" for it. But, we have to make some changes in sentences. (Refer to Example-5).

  • He begged his master to pardon him.

5. Alice said to her friends, "Let us have a picnic."

  • Alice suggested having a picnic. Or,
  • Alice suggested to her friends that they should have a picnic.
