Sheila has a picture frame that measures 20cm by 30cm.
a) If she puts a mat inside the frame – one that has a uniform width – that decreases the picture’s
area by 264cm², how wide is the mat?
b) If she increased each side length of the original picture frame by the same amount, resulting in
the enclosed area being 1064cm², what would the dimenions of this new frame be?

Answer:

AREA OF FRAME = ( 2O X 3O)CM

AREA = ( L X B )

= 3O X 2O CM

6OOCM²

A) AREA OF FRAME = ( 6OO + 264 )

= 864CM²

SO , WIDTH = W

( 2O X W ) = 864

W = ( 864\2O )

W = 43.2 CM
