Sheila’s mother kept a glass of hot milk on a table and told her about it. But, Sheila forgot about the milk and went out for playing. When she came back she found that milk was cold.

Explaination of the above situation:

• First of all, milk is a liquid (containing large amount of water) with free surface molecules and molecules deep inside the bulk.

• So, when the girl left the milk in the glass and went to play , the glass of milk was left undisturbed for sometime.

• The surface water molecules took up their SPECIFIC LATENT HEAT from the surroundings and changed state from liquid to vapours , which evaporated.

• Also some amount of heat from the milk was lost by conduction through the surface of the table on which it was kept.

• These processes lead to cooling down of the milk by the time the girl returned.
