Answer:

The average speed is 16 km/hr and the average velocity is zero.

Explanation:

Given:

Distance from school to house =4km

Time taken for forward journey =10 minutes

Time taken for return journey =20minutes

To find:

Average speed and average velocity

Solutoin:

(a) For finding the average speed

Total distance/Total time

Here total distance =Forward journey+ Return journey=(4+4)km=8km

Totaltime=(10+20)minutes=30minutes or \frac {30}{60}hour=\frac 12 hour

So, the average speed is

\frac {8}{\frac12}}=16 km/hr.

(B) The average velocity = \frac {totaldisplacement}{Totaltime}

In this case, the displacement is zero as the person returned to the starting point.

Therefore, average velocity is also zero.

The average speed is 16 km/hr and the average velocity is zero.
