Sher Shah Suri founded the Sur Empire in North India having its capital at Delhi. He ruled the Mughal Empire in 1540. After he died in 1545, his son Islam Shah climbed the throne.. In 1534 in the battle of Surajgarh, Ghiyasuddin Mahmud Shah's forces were defeated by Sher Khan, who captured the whole of Bihar.

Sher Shah was the strongest ruler of sur dynasty as he made improvement in many fields. After defeating Jahagir, he strengthen the administrative system. He is well known for fostering trade and commerce, improving roads and developing infrastructure in those times. During his seven-year rule from 1538 to 1545, he set up new economic and military administration. He set up a strong army and recruited soldiers directly. He made the dispensation of justice much fairer.
