Shillong and Guwahati are almost at the same distance from the equator. Why then is Shillong much colder than Guwahati?

SHILLONG IS A HILL STATION AS THE CAPITAL OF THE STATE NAMED MEGHALAYA AND THAT'S WHY THE SHILLONG IS MUCH COLDER THAN GUWAHATI
