Hi..!

As you know cherrapunji is situated in the south part of meghalaga whereas shillong is on north. So the wind carrying the rain which originates from bay of bengal travels upward towards meghalaya in the north direction. And also meghalaya is surrounded by three hills namely khasi hills, garo hills and jayantia hill. So when this wind enters meghalaya it first visit cherrapunji and because of these three hills most of the wind carrying moisture gets trapped inside and because of which they burst in cherrapunji making it the wettest place on earth, and some of this rain eventually escapes these and travels to shillong and burst there making it less wet when compared to cherrapunji. But now even cherrapunji doesn't have the title of wettest place on earth,it has been given to Mawsynram now.

Hope this helps u!

Shillong normally recieves a high amount of rainfall throughout the whole year and it's one of the highest rainfall receiving places of our country and as well as the whole world.

But in the recent years, this place is dealing with the water scarcity.

Because,

1) Population growth is a major reason behind this incident.

The amount of water usage per annum is directly proportional with the amount of population of that region.

Now ,the increasing population is constantly depleting the natural water bodies.

2) Deforestation is also a major reason which is decreasing the amount of annual rainfall and the water scarcity is happening as an ultimate result.

3) Lack of rainwater harvesting systems is also a major reason.

And many more.
