Shimla and Ludhiana are almost at the same distance from the Equator
Then, why is Shimla much colder than Ludhiana?​

Though Shimla and Ludhiana lie at the same distance from the equator Shimla is colder because it lies at a high altitude. The temperature of a place depends on the distance from the equator distance from the sea altitude winds and ocean currents

Shimla and Ludhiana are almost at the same distance from the equator. But:
i. Shimla is located at a higher altitude than Ludhiana.

ii. Shimla is 2000m above the sea level whereas Ludhiana is 200m above sea level.

iii. The more the altitude, the less is the temperature.

iv. As altitude increases, pressure also increases which makes it difficult to breathe at higher altitudes.
