solution used to white wash walls is quick lime (CaO) when it is mixed with water it makes slaked lime ( Ca(OH)2) When this paste is used for white washing it combines with the carbondioxide to form a thin layer of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) Which gives the wall a shining white texture.
