A ship floats because it is shaped such that it will contain air within its hull and therefore the average density of the ship as a whole including cavities and all air space is less than the water. Therefore it floats

ship are designed in such in a way that they float on the water their inside is hallow because of which density of water become high due to the large volume of the ship and it will experiences a greater upthrust. but stone sinks because of the surface area this will experiences a less upthrust and sinks.
