The vertical distance from his house is 3m.

Shiva travels 10 m towards West. He turns left and travels 15 m. Again he turns to his left and walks 10 m further. Finally, he walks 13 m towards North and then stops.

We have to find the vertical distance from Shiva's house.

It can be solved easily with the help of graph.

At first, Shiva travels 10 m towards west.

  • let AB is the line segment showing the distance 10 m towards west.
  • BC shows 15 m towards South (he turns left).
  • CD shows 10 m towards east (he turns left again)
  • DE shows 13m towards north.

see diagram, it is clear that, AE is the vertical distance from his house (A).

here DE = 13 m , BC = DA = 10 m

so, AE = DE - DA = 13 - 10 = 3 m

Therefore the vertical distance from his house is 3m.
