Shiva travels 10 m towards West. He turns
left and travels 15 m. Again he turns to his
left and walks 10 m further. Finally, he
walks 13 m towards North and then stops.
At what vertical distance is he from his

The vertical distance from his house is 3m.

We have to find the vertical distance from Shiva's house.
It can be solved easily with the help of graph.
At first, Shiva travels 10 m towards west.
- let AB is the line segment showing the distance 10 m towards west.
- BC shows 15 m towards South (he turns left).
- CD shows 10 m towards east (he turns left again)
- DE shows 13m towards north.
see diagram, it is clear that, AE is the vertical distance from his house (A).
here DE = 13 m , BC = DA = 10 m
so, AE = DE - DA = 13 - 10 = 3 m
Therefore the vertical distance from his house is 3m.
