The Shompens are the native people of the interior of Great Nicobar Island, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Geographically, the tribe can be classified into 4 different groups depending on their location in Great Nicobar Island. The name of these groups are north--eastern, western, southern and central group.
At the end of 20th century, Shompens were living in 10 groups, sized from 2 to 22 people i group, scattered across the interior of the island.
