Let CP be ₹ x.

So, SP at 15% gain

= ₹ (x+15% of x)

= ₹ 115x/100

And SP at 18% gain

= ₹ (x+18% of x)

= ₹ 118x/100

According to condition,

(118x/100)-(115x/100) = 18

or, (118-115)x/100 = 18

or, 3x/100 = 18

or, 3x = 18×100

or, 3x = 1800

or, x = 1800/3

or, x = 600

So, CP = ₹ x = ₹ 600

Hence, the CP of the article is ₹ 600.
