Given : shopkeeper sold half of the total apples he had and half an apple to his first customer and so on to 5 customers . 5 apples left

To find : apples he had in the beginning

Solution:

We can do reverse calculation here

After giving to 5th customer he is left with 5 Apples

Apples before giving to 5th Customer = A

=> A  - A/2  - 0.5  = 5

=> A/2  = 5.5

=> A= 11

11 apples before giving to the customer

A  - A/2  - 0.5  = 11

=> A = 23  apples before giving to 4th customer

A  - A/2  - 0.5  = 23

=> A = 47 apples before giving to 3rd customer

A  - A/2  - 0.5  = 47

=> A = 95 apples before giving to 2nd customer

A  - A/2  - 0.5  = 95

=> A = 191 apples before giving to 1st  customer

He had 191 apples in beginning
