The most fundamental principle defining credible elections is that they must reflect the free expression of the will of the people. To achieve this, elections should be transparent, inclusive, and accountable, and there must be equitable opportunities to compete in the elections. Due to a few Candidates who spend a lot of money in puchacing votes and those with criminal connection often lose elections.  Barring very few disputed elections, the electoral outcomes are usually accepted as 'people's verdict' by the defeated party. Elections in India are basically free and fair. India has an independent Election Commission which regulates the election process.
