When ice melts , there is a decrease in the volume since , the ice is a solid and it's molecules are tightly packed , whereas when the ice melts , the solid turns into a liquid shape . We know that liquid shape's molecules are loosely packed. Thus , the volume of the ice decreases when it melts.
