Even though World Teacher’s Day is celebrated on October 5  every year since 1994, countries like Mexico and Colombia celebrate it on May 15. The day is an opportunity to promote and recognize the importance of educators in the future of every generation and to show appreciation and highlight the many contributions of the teaching profession. Each year, schools in Mexico are supposed to stop normal activities and organize cultural events, but this year the date landed on a Sunday. The first Teacher's Day in Mexico was celebrated on May 15, 1918, after being approved by the country's congress. However, in Colombia, the date was set for more religious reasons. The day marks the appointment of San Juan Bautista de la Salle as the patron of teachers.
