1) Transvere wave:in this the particles did not oscillate in the line of wave propagation but oscillates up and down.
2) Longitudnal wave:on this particles move in a direction parallel to the direction of propagation of disturbance.

longitudinal wave is a wave in which particles move along the direction of propogation of wave.
transverse wave is a wave which is perpendicularto the direction of wave.
sound waves are characterised by particles of medium which are called mechanical waves.
