Nature of matter

___________________

Our universe is made up of matter. In terms of science, matter may be defined as:

Anything that occupies space, possesses mass and can be felt by anyone or more of our senses. All bodies or constituents of universe conform to this definition of matter. Mass signifies the quantity in a particular

sample of matter. Please note that the mass of a body is constant and does not change irrespective of the place where it is measured or determined. This means that the mass of a body remains unchanged at the sea level or at the top of a mountain

The term weight should not be confused with mass. It infact, represents the force with which an object is attracted towards earth. Thus, the weight of an object present on the surface of the earth is the product of its mass and the acceleration due to gravity (w=mg). This means that the weight of any object changes with the change in gravity. We can also say that the weight of a body at the sea level is different from its weight at the top of a mountain. We may conclude that:

Mass of an object always remains fixed but its weight may change.
