Rabindranath Tagore became the first Indian to be honoured by the Nobel prize for his works in Geetanjali . He won't this recognition in 1913. He was born in calcutta as the youngest son of Debendranath. He went to England at the young age of 17. After his return from England he stayed at the family estate. During this period he understood the difficulties faced by the common people. He was then interested in the upliftment of the society. Thus, Tagore began the Visva Bharti University in Bengal. He was a poet, playwriter, novelist, eduxationalist, and philosopher whose works reshaped the bengali literature and music. In later life Tagore gave his support to the Indian independence movement and was a good friend of Gandhi ji. His song 'Jana Gana Mana'
has been selected as the national anthem of our nation. But this not ends his list of achievements. He is also the only person to write the national anthem of two nations. He was a man of great ethics. He is the founder of Shanti niketan at Bolepur in Bengal. His greatness was even honoured by the British government. He was not just an artist he was a leader and a great writer too. His writings include Utsarg, Parisesh, Puthraput, Navjathak, etc. He died on 8th, August 1941.
