The largest island in the world is Greenland, unless Australia is believed to be an island.

Most people think Australia is a continent because it is more than three times bigger than Greenland.

Some islands are their own countries. Examples of islands that are their own countries include Cuba, Iceland, and Madagascar. There are many others. Other islands have more than one country, such as Borneo and Hispaniola.

In India there are two groups of island are

1)Lakshadweep Island:

•Lakshadweep Islands group lying close to the Malabar Coast of Kerala

•It lies in Arabian Sea

•It earlier name was Laccadive,Minicoy and Amindive

•In 1973,these were collectively known as Lakshadweep

•It covers small area of 32 sq.km

•Kavarrati Island is the administrative headquarters of Lakshadweep

2)Andaman and Nicobar Island

•It lies in Bay of Bengal

•The entire island is divided into two broad categories-The Andaman in the north and The Nicobar in the south

•These are believed to be elevated part of submarine mountains

•These islands lies close to equator and experience equatorial climate •It has thick forest covers
