"Death the leveller " is a philosophical poem written by James Shirley which has been included in the syllabus of class 11th .
The central Idea of the poem is that death is all powerful. Nothing can remain beside death. The one who has taken birth has to die a day or the other. It emphasis on the virtue of good deeds and criticises worldly success and victories.
The meaning of the word "Leveller" is the thing that effect everyone equally. The death has been called "leveller" because it has to come to all irrespective of social status. No one is exempted from it.
This poem help us to think about our deeds before doing anything and always remember that we have to die a day!
