Acids are substances having a sour taste. The word ‘acid’ comes from a Latin word ‘ acere’ , which means sour. Acids are corrosive and react with bases to form salt and water. Also, acid turn blue litmus paper red. For example hydrochloric acid (HCl), sulphuric acid (H2SO4) are acids.

The acid present in fruits , vegetables , curd and milk are naturally occuring acids . They are weak acids and are present in these substances . These acids are also known as organic acids
Some of the acids are derived from minerals.
They are also known as mineral acids. Sulphuric acid , nitric acid are mineral acid .
