AIDS ( Accquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome ) is a syndrome caused by a virus called HIV ( Human Immunodeficiency Virus ). The disease alters the immune system, making people much vulnerable to infections and diseases. It is transmitted by sexual contact, breast feeding ( from a pregnant woman to an unborn baby) etc.

A person is said to have AIDS when their immune system is too weak to fight off infection, and they develop certain defining symptoms and illness
