The worst kind of tragedy in itself occurred in the night of 2 Dec 1984
The chemical, methyl isocyanate (MIC), that spilled out from Union Carbide India Ltd’s (UCIL’s) pesticide factory turned the city into a vast gas chamber. People ran on the streets, vomiting and dying. The city ran out of cremation grounds.
Even today the newly born children suffer being the victim of this tragedy. The company did not follow strictly the safety standards and the compensation paid was not up to the mark.
