ABO blood group system, the classification of human blood based on the inherited properties of red blood cells (erythrocytes) as determined by the presence or absence of the antigens A and B, which are carried on the surface of the red cells. Persons may thus have type A, type B, type O, or type AB blood.

It is based on plasma or absence of two surface antigens on RBCs , Namely A and B .
- Antigen are chemical that induce response of immune.
- Plasma contains two Antibody - A and B
- Antibodies are proteins produced in response to antigens .
- If bloods with interactive antigens and antibody are mixed, it causes clumping of RBCs
- Person O blood group called Universal donor
- Person AB blood group called Universal Reciever

- Rhesus [RH] Factor is antigen
- Discovered by landsteiner and wiener {1940} In Rhesus Monkey
- presence of antigen termid as RH-neg and absence RH + neg
- 80% of person are RH +ve
- RH should be match before blood transfusion
