In March 1859 many ryots in Bengal refused to grow Indigo and they attacked Indigo factories with swords and Spears ,bows and arrows. Those who worked for the planters where socially boycotted and the Agents of planters who came to collect rent were beaten up so that they would no longer take advances to grow Indigo.
The ryots couldn’t grow rice after cultivating indigo on the same land due to this, they took to arms and refused to grow Indigo.
