Answer:

The peninsular plateau is divided into two- the central highlands and the Deccan plateau. The part of the peninsular plateau lying to the north of the Narmada river is known as the Central highlands. The Vindhyan range is bounded by the central highlands on the south and the Aravalis on the northwest.

Deccan Plateau

The Deccan Plateau is a large plateau that covers most of South India. It is triangular, surrounded by three mountain ranges. It extends over eight Indian states (principally, Telangana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu). ... The forests on the plateau are older than the Himalayan mountains.

Central Highland

The Central Highlands lies to the north of the Narmada river. It covers the major portion of the Malwa plateau. The rivers in this region flow from southwest to northeast; which indicates the slope of this region. It is wider in the west and narrower in the east.
