The Chalukya dynasty ([tʃaːɭukjə]) was a Classical Indian royal dynasty that ruled large parts of southern and central India between the 6th and the 12th centuries. During this period, they ruled as three related yet individual dynasties. They ruled from Vengi until about the 11th century.

the chalukya dynasty was established by Pulakishin l in 543 . Pulakishin l took vatapi ( modern badami in Bagalkot district karnataka) under his control made his capital .they ruled over an empire that comprised the entire state of Karnataka and most of Andhara pradesh in the Deccan.
