This monument is the tomb or mausoleum of Muhammad Adil Shah. It was constructed in special Indo - Islamic style in 1659 A.D. On a base of 47.5m length and width walls all around it's four sides, it
has a dome whose diameter and height are 44m and 33.22 m respectively. In the base of dome have been made shapes as petals of a lotus flower. This is one of the biggest domes of Asia. Inside this building there is a vast hall. There are arcs giving the dome support toward inside, and a whisper gallery where sounds get magnified and echoed many times over. On the four corners of the building there are octagonal seven-storeyed minaret capped by smaller domes.
These towers have staircase leading to the top of the dome. The drum of the dome is decorated with foliation. A heavily bracketed cornice resting on corbels is distinctive feature of the facade. Gol Gumbaz is a fine convergence of many styles located in medieval India. The structural peculiarities of dome, arched, geometric proportions and load bearing techniques suggest, Timuried and
