Durgapur Steel Plant is one of the five integrated steel plants of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). It was set up with British collaboration in 1959 with 1 Million Tonne per Annum (MTPA) crude steel production capacity. The first ingot was cast from erstwhile Steel Melting nineties, modernisation and expansion of the plant were carried out.. Several facilities were included during this phase and later also. Recently, another phase of modernisation has been completed.
