Effect of light on plants :-

Light is necessary for chlorophyll production and brings about photosynthesis.

Light increases temperatures, regulates the rate of transportation and also effects the opening and close of stomata.

Depending on the preference of light, plants are classified as

a) heliophytes. Sun loving plant require full sunlight ex- sunflower

b)sciophytes. Shade loving plants which require low level of sunlight

ex- abies, picea

• Light affects the movements of plants. This phenomena is called Heliotrophic effect.

• Stems are usually positively and roots negatively photographic.
