The dust and various fumes inhaled by miners make them vulnerable to pulmonary diseases.

The risk of collapsing mine roofs, inundation and fires in coal mines are a constant threat to miners.

The water resources in the regions get contaminated due to mining.

Dumping of waste and slurry leads to degradation of land, soil and increase in stream and river pollution.

A hazard is something that can cause harm, e.g. electricity, chemicals, working up a ladder, noise, a keyboard, a bully at work, stress, etc. A risk is the chance, high or low, that any hazard will actually cause somebody harm.
