humanism is a ethical and philsophical stance that emphaizes the value and agency of human beings,individually and collectively and afirms thier ability to improve thier lives through the use of reason and ingenuity as opossed to submittting blindly to tradition and authority or sinking into cruelity or brutality..the term was coined in the 19th century german educational reformer and theologian friedrich niethammer and gradually adopted into english....hope this helps...:-)
