The Indian sub-continent is a well- defined land with natural borders. This whole mass of land is mostly situated in the tropical zone.
The Indian subÂcontinent is as large in areas as Europe without Russia. Its total area is 4,202,500 square kilometers. The sub-continent is divided into six countries-Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and India. In ancient times this whole mass of land was known as Hindustan or Bharatavarsha.
This land is bordered in the north by Himalayas, the western and northÂwestern side by Pamir plateau and Sulaiman Kirthar ranges, on the eastern side by the Bay of Bengal and western side by the Arabian Sea. Southern borders are bounded by Indian Ocean.
