Gautama Buddha was a religious leader and spiritual teacher. He lived in ancient India. His childhood name was Siddhartha Gautama. He belonged to the shakya clan that ruled Kapilvastu. His father was king Suddhodana and mother was Maya. He taught and lived around the border of present day India and Nepal around 6th to 4th century BC. Buddha in Sanskrit means a person who is awake or enlightened. His teachings are based on his insight into dukkha ( suffering) and the end of it. The state when dukkha ends is called Nirvana.
