Mahatma Gandhi, byname of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, (born October 2, 1869, Porbandar, India—died January 30, 1948, Delhi), Indian lawyer, politician, social activist, and writer who became the leader of the nationalist movement against the British rule of India. As such, he came to be considered the father of his country. Gandhi is internationally esteemed for his doctrine of nonviolent protest(satyagraha) to achieve political and social progress.

He was one of the main leaders who led the National Movement in India .


His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi .

He studied Law and then joined Politics .


His principles were Satyagraha ( truth seeker ) , Non cooperation ( not to cooperate with the evil ) .

He also led stress on Ahimsa or non-violence .


He actively participated in politics as a ember of the Congress.

He was elected the President of the All India Khilafat Committee and he played a major role in the Khilafat Movement .


He also played a major role in the Non Cooperation Movement , Civil Disobedience Movement and Quit India Movement .

He was assassinated by Nathuram Godse on 1948 .
