Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was Mahatma Gandhi’s full name. Still, he was popularly known as ‘Bapu.’ He was the leader of nationalism in British-ruled India. He was a freedom fighter who followed the path of non-violence in leading India towards Independence from British rule.
He was born in Porbandar, Gujrat, on 2nd October 1869. He studied law in England and later went to South Africa to fight for the rights of the South-African Indians and thus became a political activist. Mahatma Gandhi is known throughout the world for his twenty-four day ‘Salt March’ or ‘Dandi March’ in 1930.
Mahatma Gandhi led three main movements known as the Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, and Quit India Movement, which was driving forces that led to India’s Independence in 1947. He had successfully inspired a lot of ordinary people to fight for their rights. He was killed on 30th January 1948 by Nathuram Godse.
