Mir Jafar was a military commander of the province of Bengal under Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah. He helped the British in their conquest of Bengal. After nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah was defeated in the Battle of Plassey, Mir Jafar was reinstated as the new nawab of Bengal by the British. He was the puppet ruler of Bengal.
