Mitosis is a kind of cell division which leads to growth and repair of the body. In this cell division, the nucleus undergoes a series of nuclear changes. The two daughter cells, formed as a result of mitosis are similar to the parent cells in all respects. So mitosis is also called equational cell division. This division is essential for growth in multicellular organisms. Mitosis generally occurs in somatic or body cells. It consists of four main stages which are prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase.
