1857 Revolt:

The revolt of 1857 or the Sepoy Mutiny was a great uprising of the sepoys against the British rule in the form of East India Company.

The Company’s army turned rebellious and erupted into civilian rebellions and mutinies and posed as a severe threat to the Britishers. Several commanders and leaders like Bahadur Shah Zafar, Nana Sahib, Rani LaxmiBai, Tatya Tope, Patrick Grant, and many more lead this mutiny during 1857-1858.

Nana Sahib had a great surprise role in this mutiny. Initially, it was thought that he was going to support and guard the British Army on Company’s behalf but he instead used about 1500 soldiers to rebel against the British rule in Cawnpore. He said he would like to be the vassal of Bahadur Shah and fought against the British Company and occupied their treasury.

The relationship Nana Sahib had with the Britishers is still clouded with the facts in the way he gave safe conduct to Sir. Wheeler, a commander in the British Army.

However, Nana Sahib could not lead the Sepoy Mutiny because of his lack of military and artillery knowledge.
