One of the driving forces of the rebellion by sepoys, was a prophecy that predicted the downfall of East India Company rule exactly one hundred years after this battle. This prompted the rebel soldiers under Nana Sahib to launch a major attack on the entrenchment on 23 June 1857.

British government denied Nana Sahib to gave him pension so he join the rebels and fight against Britishers .his sepoys killed several British men and women mercilessly and send out British troops from Kanpur.his commander, Tania tope, killed many Britishers .but the English troops under general Havelock took the revenge of it and murdered a number of Indians .Nana Sahib ran away to Nepal and escaped being imprisoned by the English.
