Did you ever wonder how plants breathe, drink, eat, and grow? They carry out these functions just like us, yet in different ways. One category of specialized organelles that plants use in order to survive is plastids.

Plastids are double membrane-bound organelles found inside plants and some algae, which are primarily responsible for activities related to making and storing food. Many plastids are photosynthetic, but some are not.

Some of the most common plastids include:

Chloroplasts
Chromoplasts
Gerontoplasts
and Leucoplasts

Plastids are present in only plant cell.Plastids can be divided into two parts:- 1. Leucoplasts (colourless) and 2. Chromoplasts (coloured).
Again,

Chromoplasts can be divided into three parts:-

1. Chloroplast=> Green color pigment. Chloroplast helps in photosynthesis and it is the site of Photosynthesis.

2. Phaeoplasts=> Brown color pigment. Its pigment is called Xanthophyll Pigment.

3Rhodoplasts=> It is a red coloured pigment. Its pigment is called Phycosthythrin.Function of Plastids are as follow:-

1. Leucoplasts store the reserve foods in the form of Starch.

2. Chromoplasts helps in Pollination or it also provide the attractive color into the differ parts of Plants.

3. Chloroplast are the site of Photosynthesis so they are called the kitchen of the Cell.
