In the context of computers a register is a location in the CPU that holds a value that the processor can operate on. Operations on registers are extremely fast. Its hard to remember but accessing memory takes time, even if its microseconds. If you want to add two numbers and they are both in registers then it will be much faster than if you have two numbers stored in memory because the time to ‘fetch’ the value is added to the time to complete the operation. The term ‘register array’ probably refers to the set of registers, because there are multiple registers in a CPU. I haven’t done hardware in years so I don’t know how many registers are on modern processors, but in the x86 family there were 8
