Algae contains chlorophyll in them so we can say that algae are chlorophyll bearing .

They can make their own food by photosynthesis so they are autotrophic in nature .

The habitats in places like moist sand , stones soil and wood .

Some of the fungi like lichen are grown in animals .

Reproduction in Algae :-

  • The algae reproduce vegetative sexually and asexually. In the vegetative mode of reproduction they reproduce by fragmentation . In this process each fragments develop into thallus .
  • There is reproduction with the help of spores which is called zoospores . This is asexual reproduction .
  • In sexual reproduction there the fusion is between two gametes .
  • Flagella plays a very important role in sexual reproduction .
  • Sometimes there is fusion between large non motile female gammat and small motile mail gammat this is term as Oogamous .
