Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint, and the absence of a despotic government.

Freedom stands for something greater than just the right to act however I choose—it also stands for securing to everyone an equal opportunity for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. To most reasonable people, freedom means more than just 'free to dowhatever I want'

The rights to freedom are the most important fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution of India. It is the prevalence of these freedoms that make democracy meaningful.

The original constitution as adopted in 1949 guaranteed seven such freedoms. By the 44th amendment, the right to hold and dispose of property has been removed from the list of fundamental freedoms in 1978
