The southernmost range of the Himalayan system is known as Shiwalik range. The average altitude of the Shiwalik ranges varies between 900m to 1100m. The area between Shiwaliks and the lesser Himalayas consists of a number of valleys. These valleys are more or less parallel to the ranges and are known as Duns.
