Major focus of sociolinguistics is on the effect of society on language while Studying The relationship of language and society is called Sociology of language. It is closes to sociolinguistics.
Language has an important role in our life and there are thousands of lanugages spoken all over the world. These language has different impact on their societies and people live in thos societies.
The extensive study describing the consequence of any particular or all spheres of society like cultural norms, expectations and context on the way of language is termed as sociolinguistics. It also examines how language varies between social groups that differ in religion, ethnicity, gender, level of education, status, age, etc. It is different from sociology of language.
Sociology of language, on the other hand, emphasizes on the effects of language on society.
